The daughters any senior needs when its time to move.
As you may know if you read my column in the Senior Corner, I am in the position of having placed my dar- ling “mother-in-love,” Eleanor, in a local assisted living facility, and I am so happy to report she is thriving! There was the usual adjustment period, and perhaps we were a bit naive as a fami- ly...assuming our love would carry us through the transition. But here it is, a few months later, and we have all found our place in the complex picture of helping our parent in her senior years. My mother would frequently say that “a mother is able to take care of six children, but six children can't take care of one mother!” Although we know that isn’t necessarily true, I understand what she meant. In reality, at the time that a mother/father needs help and support, we are frequently at one of the most demanding time of our own lives. Work, grandchildren, our own downsizing and preparation for our next stage of life are quite large in our minds, and then we feel this concern for the parents/relatives we love very much. As you may also know from reading my column, my partner, Carol Coze- with and I are SENIOR ASSISTANTS 908-883-0469; ellynmantell@aol.com.) Ours is a service that aides clients in every aspect of their move to inde- pendent or assisted living, and we are very proud to state that our clients never have to pack or unpack a box as we ensure a smooth, stylish and suc- cessful move to their new home. We provide a very specific piece of the entire next chapter in our parents’ life. It is through our desire to interact with other eldercare providers that we met with Dina Frauwirth, because in reality, she and her mother, Carol Katz, provide the piece that precedes us... where should our parents go to live? Dina is AMAZING! Bubbly, smart, knowledgeable and kind, she and Carol are known as ADULT CARE ADVISORS 908-812-9158; dina@adultcareadvisors.com.) Dina and Carol have their finger on the pulse of facilities for seniors, and they are the ones to act as their ombuds- men in dealing with the incredible maze of offerings for our parents’ gen- eration. They assess the family, as well as those needing care, to determine where is the best placement. They have the ability, as well as the perspective of the marketplace to guide our loved ones to make the best placement pos- sible. They take into consideration not only their financial situation, but their social and medical needs. They are a treasure, and the best part is that their service is free to the family and client, as they are subsidized by whichever facility becomes home to Mom or Dad. They have no allegiance to a particular place, so families know her recommen- dations are finely tuned based on the needs before them. I am committed to sourcing for our community people who provide the services necessary to lead you through this challenging time in all of our lives. Please reach out and either ask ques- tions, or talk with us. We can be of great help...in actuality, we are ASSIS- TANTS to not only the senior, but the entire family!
