For over three decades, Homeless Solu- tions, Inc. (HSI) has been giving “ a hand up, not a hand out” to the homeless and working poor in the greater Morris Coun- ty area. Our non-profit Board of Trustees, Staff, and Volunteers all share a passion for our mission, “To offer shelter, servic- es, and supportive housing to homeless and low income people.” Our caring, professional staff and comprehensive pro- grams give people the tools they need to rebuild their lives. In 2014, we served 523 individuals, including 140 children. We help families and individuals who are in need of housing and who have nowhere else to turn; we provide them with the support they need so they can live inde- pendently again. Within our Morristown shelter, we run four separate programs – the Family Pro- gram, the Single Women’s Program, the Men’s Program, and the Safe Haven Pro- gram for homeless mentally ill people. Case Managers work closely with our guests to set goals and develop a plan so they are able to successfully return to liv- ing on their own. We also manage a ten apartment Transitional Housing Pro- gram for families whose adult members are working and making the transition from homelessness to living independent- ly. All guests participate in our Life Skills Curriculum and attend workshops that help them develop the skills required to live on their own. In addition, we manage The Mt. Kemble Home, a historic proper- ty housing 19 elderly women of limited means. Because a major cause of homelessness is a lack of affordable housing, we also have a Housing Development program that is responsible for the creation and main- tenance of housing within our commu- nity that is affordable to very low, low, and moderate income households. We cur- rently manage 57 rental units in the Mor- ris County area, with several other proj- ects in various stages of development. In addition, we operate Furnishing Solu- tions, an upscale, resale furnishings, design, and clothing store in Morris Plains. The store consists of 17,000 square feet of unique furniture, housewares and clothing at up to 60% off retail prices. The staff and local experts offer a variety of do- it-yourself workshops, tastings and other events and all proceeds from the store support Homeless Solutions shelter pro- grams.
