Finley Ave., Basking Ridge Truly transform the way you live Don’t get me wrong, I love the sim- plicity of a clean, white kitchen, but please don’t try to do the same one your neighbor has! I feel like most people want to play it safe with their new kitchen by doing what they see everyone else doing. I understand that since you are spending a huge amount of money you are going to have to live with it for a while and you want to play it safe for resale. This is also a reason not to just settle for safe and unin- teresting, you are spending a lot of money on safe and uninteresting. Don’t you want to LOVE your new kitchen?! As we have all heard over and over again, “the kitchen is the heart of the home.” Well, it really is. Where else do you spend 90% of your waking, at home, hours? Where else in the home does the entire family spend time together? It has actually become even more important now that clients are inte- grating cozy seating in the kitchen to encourage family to gather there. Obviously, this is a critical area for the function and flow of the home and should be thought- fully designed. It’s definitely not just about hurriedly switching out cabi- nets and countertops. Our advice to get the best kitchen for you is to have fun, yes I said “fun.” Remodeling a kitchen is not something to get over with quickly, remember you are creating a space you love to be in, and something that will affect how your family lives and functions together for many years to come. Work with your designer to integrate a few “wow” elements into your space – a great light fixture, a coffered or beamed ceiling, a stunning back- splash tile, interesting island design, unusual glass doors, an exotic stone or wood top, unique hardware, re-claimed wood floors, a custom metal hood, or anything unique that speaks to you. With all the options out there, our clients do find it very overwhelming. The tendency is to just pick the safest options which will make your kitchen look like everyone else’s kitchen. So, take a little risk on a few elements and let your designer help you make good decisions, they have done this before so use their help as much as possible. Our hap- piest clients have found that this gives them a much better result while making the process less stressful and more fun. It will make the difference between liking your new white kitchen and LOVING it!
