GRAPHIC DESIGN DIANA HEOM “Inspiration comes from within my inner soul” has always been the driving force for Valerie's creative vision and passion for life. The dynamic layers of color, collage techniques, and the moving complexity of her paint- ings are forged and inspired by a lifetime of influences. The multi-faceted and colorful com- positions of her work reflect her international experiences, pho- tography and printmaking skills. Valerie’s work has been featured in galleries, commer- cial buildings, designer show- cases, magazines, hospitals and private collections in the U.S. and abroad. Valerie received her MFA from George Wash- ington University. She has a BA in art educa- tion, art studio, and art history from Elmira College. In 1972, she studied in Florence, Italy with Syracuse University foreign study program. Later she attended Parson's School of Design, NYC with credits in interior design and space planning. From 1976 to 1978, Valerie started her career as the Assistant to the Director of Design and later the Fashion Coordinator in public rela- tions for Wamsutta Mills in New York City. In 1979, she was appointed as the Director of Advertising and Public Relations for Mikasa, Inc. where she managed the New York show- rooms and traveled throughout the United States. She became one of the leading home furnishings and design consultant experts and was seen on local television and radio programs across the country. Throughout her career, Valerie has exhibited her work in Washington, D.C. and the New York metropolitan area, as well as private collections around the world. Having a back- ground in printmaking and photography, she has now evolved into an accomplished painter and continues to devel- op her talent as an artist. Her artwork has been influenced by the likes of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and the colorist Victor Vasarely. Valerie’s images are vibrant, emotionally driv- en, and reflect a unique style all her own. As a visionary, she is constantly searching for new ways to express herself on canvas, using not only acrylics, but other mediums as well including pencil, charcoal, stencils and col- lage.
