Brandon and Bri- anna were both diagnosed with a rare life-threatening blood disorder that affects 1 in 160,000 people. This family is local to us from Mid- dlesex and my nephew is Brandon’s classmate. Having to raise two chil- dren with special needs myself, my heart immediately went out to this family and instantly felt compelled to help once I heard about the emo- tional and financial burdens that are ahead of them. David and Erica Williams live in Middlesex, NJ and have two beauti- ful and energetic children. Brandon is six and Brianna is three. Their lives were unexpectedly changed when both Brandon and Brianna were diagnosed with a life-threaten- ing blood disorder called Fanconi anemia. Brandon’s bone marrow is failing and currently there are no good donor matches. Brianna isn’t symptomatic but doctors predict she will experience bone marrow failure within the next few years. Brandon has had to go through countless tests since November of 2014 when his bone marrow failure condition was diagnosed. Being a perceptive little boy, he asked one day, “Mommy, what’s wrong with my bow and arrow?” Misinterpreting “bow and arrow” for “bone marrow” was such an innocent moment that is now affectionately used by the family; their bow and arrow babies There are only two centers in the country that specialize in this syn- drome. Brandon and Brianna plan to visit The Fanconi Comprehensive Care Center at the Cincinnati’s Chil- dren’s Hospital at the end of January. The specialists there will conduct a complete workup on both children which includes an echocardiogram, EKG, renal ultrasound, dermatology exam, orthopedic exam, and bone marrow biopsy. The results will reveal not only any undiagnosed anomalies, but also whether or not Brandon is a good candidate for a drug therapy treatment. The treat- ment is expected to stabilize his hemoglobin until an adequate trans- plant match is found. Please also see their website for more information. bowandarrowbabies.tumblr.com. I am strongly urging you to support us in our efforts and join us for an incredible evening of fun as we turn our field house into a World Class Casino on Saturday June 6th from 7- 11pm. Brandon and Brianna will hopefully be up for making an appearance and their incredibly strong parents, Erica and David Williams, will also be there to cele- brate this incredible event. We are looking forward to a wonder- ful evening that can help strengthen this amazing family for the moun- tains they are about to climb.
