Knowing her since birth (I am eight years her senior), I can’t recall anyone calling her Susan. Maybe our Mom used “Susan!” when disciplining or chasing her when she was a child. However, the world knows her as Susie, both per- sonally and professionally. Somewhere along the line, she picked up another nickname, Snooze, that a few relatives call her today. According to Susie, it was my stepfather that started referring to her as Snooze, shortly after he married our mother in the mid-70’s. Since my stepfather didn’t have any children of his own, Susie believed he was not used to teenagers sleeping through the entire morn- ing on weekends, and hence Snooze. For a period of three months in the spring of 2016, I traveled to Denver ten times on business, typi- cally spending 3 to 4 nights there. On a few of those trips I was able to stay with Susie and her husband, which was nice. Most of the time I stayed down- town or near the old Denver Sta- pleton airport area, both of which were close to my team and our business partners. As you might expect I was eating three meals a day at a variety of restaurants. One morning, I had a late morn- ing breakfast meeting scheduled with one of our business partners. I looked for a non-fast food restau- rant close to his office. About a block away, I found a restaurant called Snooze. It was terrific, with very creative breakfast food, more like a brunch place. Later I investi- gated and found a couple more locations in Denver as well as three other states. I did a detail address lookup on the other two locations in Denver. None of them were located near my sister’s house so I wondered if she had ever heard or been to a Snooze, which opened in Denver about 10 years ago. So I sent her a text message immediately follow- ing the meeting, along the lines of “Had a great meal at Snooze. Thought of you. Check it out if you haven’t eaten there already.” She texted me back immediately. It didn’t surprise me that Snooze had eaten at Snooze. However, she attached an image with her text message, which amazed me. Shortly before receiving my original message, she put on old tee shirt to do some cooking and cleaning around her house. Per- haps she was responding to a tele- pathic “yummy” from me 20 miles away as I ate my eggs. SNOOZING THROUGH A CONNECTION By: Dan Rosenberg Need to lose a few?
